I'm hearing some stories of dealers estimating 6-9 months but the reality being far worse than this, however they'll lie to you to get you to sign.

2022.01.21 02:32 tsukibro I'm trying to find a game from my childhood

If anyone knows of this game, please let me know. I've forgotten its title, but as I remember, it was a hidden object game with exploration, the plot had a female mc, who was trying to find her lost fathetrying to find something related to her lost father. There was a point in the game at the beginning where the helicopter her and her companion had been riding in crashes in the lost city(?) and she (the MC) has to explore to find supplies, and melts water from an icicle? The whole game has like, blue aesthetics, and starts with an A if I'm not wrong. I've been trying to find it for ages, but Google searches don't pull up anything. Please let me know if any of y'all know this game!

2022.01.21 02:32 hangrywhitegirl Should I be mad? Sorry husband spam lately

Right now we've driven to my inlaws and I'm in my little sister in-laws room trying to get my 6 month old to sleep in a space he's never been while hubby has gone to the pub with his dad and just left while I was reading his bed time books.
Every time we visit my family or his or have friends over, he leaves all the parenting to me, I'm the one who has to break away from guests to do his routine or bedtime, always.
I really love doing it, but it just doesn't seem fair even when it's my family coming to visit me I'm running around after bubs and he's out having beers with them instead.

2022.01.21 02:32 CaughttheDarkness First post here, and I'm trawling for ideas - trying to build a BitD hack built on Inception

Like the title says, I've been thinking about Inception a lot lately and realized that it'd make a killer tabletop game if you found the right mechanics - and with the systems already in place in Blades in the Dark, I feel you could easily hack it to create a really cool way of systemizing the mind heists that we see play out in the film.
That said, I've never made a game before and I haven't had any friends interested in playing BitD or a hack of it. I know a decent amount about how it works from listening to a podcast that runs Scum and Villainy, and have slowly fallen in love with how the mechanics are designed as I've kept listening, but I think I should at least play it from one side of the table to get a feel. All that said, I'm still gonna at least do a little brainstorming on what this thing looks like.
So, here's a few thoughts I already have:
Playbooks -
I'd want to include a basic four from the movie (and possibly a fifth). These are:

  1. The Thief - Think a conflation of Arthur and Cobb's roles in the film, without the elements of masterminding they both have. Good at finding and infiltrating secure places. Sneaky, quiet, deceptive, resourceful, and good at thinking on the fly. This one is the least fleshed out, given that most of those characters' roles is based on leadership, but I think there's still plenty here.
  2. The Architect - Think Ariadne. The creator of the maze. Designs the theme, layout and design of a dream world and knows how to navigate it. Capable of revealing secrets of the design to other thieves, using hidden details and giving the environment clever design details to make the thieves' lives easier (e.g. the movie mentions that putting a secure location in a dream can make the person's subconscious automatically fill it with useful information). Still plenty of interesting stuff to play with here, but need to figure a few things out. This is a pretty unique role, all things considered, and I'd like to make it feel mechanically interesting in light of that.
  3. The Forger - Think Eames. A skilled actor who has the ability to impersonate others within a dream world. These dreamwalkers are master manipulators, skilled con artists and cinema-quality actors. You need someone in a room with a mark, this is who you send.
  4. The Chemist - Think Yusuf. Of course, if your dream falls like a house of cards, that's not going to be of much use. That's where the chemist comes in - chemists use the art of science to ensure that the dream remains stable. I don't know how to keep this playbook mechanically interesting, since most of its strongest utility would come in prep time.
  5. Possibly? The Tourist - Think Saito. This would be a really interesting playbook to use...if I can get it to actually work. My thinking: this playbook is unique because anyone who chooses it plays a different character each job, either representing friends and allies of the group or their financiers. This playbook could swap out its stats and would be able to take different moves every job because of the fact that it's a rotating character, but would have to have a major weakness to compensate. That, and I'd have to find something to make sure it didn't get short shrift during downtime.
A few from outside the movie that I'd also want to include:
  1. The muscle - You hit things. It's simple and straightforward. Thing in front. Gets hit.
  2. The psychologist - You use your understanding of the human mind to navigate and manipulate the dream world. Could pull some inspiration from Paprika for this one.
I'd like to include just one more to bring the number of standard-issue playbooks up to seven without the weirdness that is The Tourist.
A few other design questions I'm looking for an answer to:
• How is harm handled in a setting where in the most dangerous places most people will navigate, there are no true physical threats - just threats to the mind? I was thinking that if you take lethal harm, you get hucked into limbo and take trauma, or that you just wake up, but those both seem a little boring.
• Speaking of limbo, how do you incorporate it? It's a cool part of the movie's setting that could have a lot of gameplay potential, but I don't know what it could do if I don't go with the above option.
• How do you keep interactions with NPCs engaging when few of the NPCs are actual people, and are mostly just extensions of others' subconscious? Do you just avoid that, or do you treat it like it's people? Or do you do something else entirely?
• How do you handle the role of the dreamer? In the film, a specific person is in control of the dream, and the rest of the people who share it populate it with projections of their subconscious. So should this be a part of the prep work or engagement? Or should there be a specific playbook that just does this? If players choose one person at the beginning of a job, then it complicates things, but if you just make it a playbook, it means someone has to choose it and it restricts multilevel dreaming like you see in the movie.
• What goals do you give a heist beyond just extraction or inception? I can see something like trying to help someone overcome a mental illness or driving someone completely insane, but beyond that...
• Flashback actions are going to be a little harder to incorporate in a setup where most everything that takes actual risk happens within a different world.
However, in spite of the challenges, I can think of a few really cool ways this could work too.
• Anything traumatic in a PC's past has the potential to manifest in a dream. We see this happen in the movie all the time to Cobb. Roll a 1? Congratulations. Now there's a freight train barreling down Main. Deal with the complications. And the longer that goes, the more there is to work with as the PCs mechanically and narratively build up more stressful experiences and difficult memories.
• BitD feels tailormade for addressing the differences in dreamscapes vs. the waking world. It already has a distinct mechanical separation for actions on the job and off.
• The movie almost already feels like a game like this - with the group constantly running into unexpected obstacles that they need to desperately improvise their way past.
• You could make some really interesting alterations to the Load system - like you can "Dream a little bigger" if you want, but it's going to attract unwanted attention.
So does anyone here have any thoughts as to ways I could make this work? Any cool ideas to make it more interesting or ways to make the mechanics fit more with the source? Statements that I'm an idiot for even trying this?
